And you'll be reassured to know that we also offer special perinatal and neonatal services for high-risk pregnancies and deliveries. Our obstetrics staff is supported by neonatology specialists and our Level III Neonatal Nursery is prepared for newborns needing extra care. This type of specialized care is why more than 2,000 families choose our Maternity Center each year. After all, it's a place of new beginnings.

And for life's mishaps, our Emergency Department is just around the corner. As the second busiest Emergency Department in the county with nearly 70,000 patient visits per year, our ED includes 11 critical care rooms and 15 minor care rooms. Open 24-hours a day, the Emergency Department is staffed by board-certified and residency-trained emergency specialist physicians and is equipped to handle life-threatening and minor emergencies from diagnosis to treatment for patients of all ages.

Our hospital is licensed for 130 beds including an eight-bed Intensive Care Unit*, a 16-bed telemetry unit, 37 beds for medical/oncology and 37 beds for post-surgical patients. More than 8,700 surgical procedures are performed at our hospital annually, both for adult and pediatric patients. The top surgical specialties at our hospital are Orthopaedics, GYN, General, ENT and Urology.

In addition to the health of our area's families, CMC-University focuses on the care of the community. We actively work to promote a healthy lifestyle by contributing to local agencies and schools and providing a range of outreach programs and health seminars. Carolinas Medical Center-University is proud to offer LiveWELL Carolinas! at Northlake Mall. Through this innovative concept, members of the community can meet with nurses and nutritionists, take part in a variety of different educational and recreational opportunities such as yoga and learn more about ways they can enhance their health and well-being.

We also partner with the YMCA of Greater Charlotte to offer CMC Health Centers located inside the University City,  Lake Norman and Lowes YMCAs. This collaborative effort provides preventive healthcare, health education and wellness programs to the community.
